SETscan Optical Patternators
The patternator is an instrument made for testing the pattern of spray
from a nozzle. It replaces mechanical patternation and its high speed and elevated resolution allow it to be used for a variety of critical
applications where the uniformity and pattern of sprays is important.
The technology was developed by En’Urga Inc. and is covered by
U.S. Patent 6184989.

Product Description

The package comes with the following items.

  • SETscan patternator
  • Data acquisition system consisting of desktop computer with the data acquisition boards and
    SprayQC software pre-installed

Operating Principle

The OP series of optical patternator has 6 lasers and 6 linear detector arrays arranged in a circular configuration. The light from
each laser is converted onto a collimated sheet (parallel edges) and six sheets intersect to form a domain where a spray pattern is determined. Extinction of the domain by a spray is measured by all six detectors providing extinction vs. pixel number for
each axis a thousand times a second. The six view angles, combined with the fast data acquisition rate of 1000 Hz, enable an
accurate, high-resolution image of a cross section of a spray.
